Le Restaurant Albert 1er
This 2* Michelin restaurant has been run by the family Carrier and Maillet for many generations. Chamonix’s leading gastronomic restaurant with a passion to stay true to the evolution of Haute-Savoie tradition. This is evident throughout, from the welcome to the decor and the menus themselves. An excellent restaurant of course with an exceptional wine list if you are looking for the finest dining experience in the region. I have eaten there several times and you cannot fault it although I have found myself wanting for the simplicity of the Cremerie du Glacier part way through the indulgence. There is a more reasonably priced lunchtime menu if you want to try this gastronomic experience and it is always nice to sit out on the terrace during the summer months.

Albert 1er’s second gastronomic restaurant, this traditional Savoyard restaurant has a welcoming ambience, a feel of the olden days in what feels like a farm setting but matched with modern charm.Authentic Savoyard cuisine. A fusion between the present and past, I prefer this restaurant to its big brother next door for a more relaxed authentic setting

Situated in the town centre, with a covered terrace overlooking the river, the restaurant has a smart, refined and warm atmosphere. Mentioned in the guides (Michelin, Gault&Millau etc…), the cuisine is of an excellent quality, combining the gastronomic French tradition with the simplicity of the Savoyard cuisine. The restaurant also has a very nice wine list. Ask for a table overlooking the river when you reserve. In my view from a culinary perspective, the best value French restaurant in Chamonix.

The Munchie has become one of the valley’s most popular restaurants. New school food, with the flavours of Asia and Europe all mixed up in classic dishes. A friendly and young/cool atmosphere. You should book well in advance to avoid disappointment. I really like this restaurant for a well prepared meal in an easy going atmosphere. Pop over the road for a cocktail afterwards at Chamonix Social Club.

The restaurant just oozes atmosphere. A more relaxed affair, but nevertheless the finest authentic Italian cuisine in the valley with a menu offering over 40 pizzas cooked on a wood-burning stove. As well as pizza there’s a wide selection of specialities such as Entrecôte Osso Buco, fresh fish or sample Valerio’s own pasta recipes. I visit this restaurant at least once a month, and never get tired of my favourite dishes and just occasionally I try a new one! The owner has won more pizza making world championships than you can imagine with the walls covered with memorabilia and photos. Hearty Italian red wines and many more on offer.

The Calèche serves traditional Savoyard cuisine in the heart of Chamonix. Here you will find over 20 Savoyard specialties including fondue, raclette, pierrade and much more! Typical Chamoniard ambiance in this warm and welcoming restaurant. But not one if you are looking for a discrete more private setting for a romantic meal, the restaurant is enormous! Packed full of interesting Savoyard antiques and artefacts. Reservations recommended.

Combining a traditional wooden lodge with modern interior design, occupying an enviable location in the Chamonix Valley right next to the open expanses of the golf course. La Cabane des Praz offers excellent contemporary French cuisine in relaxed and welcoming surroundings. Another one of my favourites, with a sunny terrace with stunning views of the Mont Blanc for the summer, and cosy snugs and a roaring fire in the winter. With a great wine list on offer.

Interesting restaurant in a farmhouse dating back to 1754, beautifully decorated with large chandeliers and fireplace. A recent change of ownership and change of food, the historic restaurant “L’Impossible” has transformed itself to become the first organic restaurant and natural cuisine in Chamonix. Friday night is Jazz night. I’ve been a couple of times and not been disappointed!

Pure Chamonix history with a more relaxed atmosphere it would be hard to find elsewhere. Simple, warm, atmospheric and very, very yummy! In 1926 Georges Ravanel started selling drinks to hikers from a little wooden hut at the foot of the Argentière’s glacier. In the 1950s his son added home-made tarts and croûtes aux fromages (chunky slices of toasted bread topped with melted cheese) to the repertoire, and by the 1980s when the next son took charge of the business La Crèmerie – at a heady height of 1300m in Argentière – had become known far and wide for its cheesy croûtes, fondue and other Savoyard staples. It still is today. Well worth heading up the valley to enjoy traditional Savoyard dishes under the pine trees in the summer months. Also an excellent lunch spot in the winter months.

A traditional wine bar that does fantastic food. After years of calling in for the odd beer or bottle of wine (great wine list) I tried the food! Great pasta dishes and tapas if you fancy something lighter. Really good wines, coffee and the best hot chocolate in Chamonix.
